Shown under construction, FedExForum is home to the National Basketball Association's Memphis Grizzlies, as well as the University of Memphis basketball teams. It was publicly funded at a cost of $250,000,000. Construction began in June 2002, and the building was completed in time for the 2004-5 basketball season. The historical marker in the foreground reads: "Ida B. Wells, 1862-1931. Ida B. Wells crusaded against lynchings in Memphis and the South. In 1892 while editor of the Memphis Free Speech, located in this vicinity, she wrote of the lynching of three Black businessmen. As a result, her newspaper office was destroyed and her life threatened."
